How to Find Your Signature Vision (1)

Where there is no vision, the people perish - Proverbs 29:18

Start with the End in Mind

Last week, I introduced the four steps to grow to your fullest. Today I start five series of the first step, Find Your Signature Vision.

When my family bought our first house, the yard was beautifully landscaped by the builder. However, I still bought some bushes to fill in the open spaces in the garden. After a few years, the garden gradually became every crowded and began to lose its beauty. Only then did I realize that I failed to understand how big the bushes would grow over the years. It took me more effort to dig out the bushes I planted to restore the original beauty of my garden.

An experienced gardener knows this very well and plants bushes or trees with ample space between them because he designs the garden with an end picture in his mind.

If our life is a garden, we should have a clear picture of the end so that we will not crowd the garden and lose its natural beauty.

My dear friend, do you have a clear picture of your life? What does your life garden look like in your mind? What is your vision in life?

Most people enter life without a big picture and are constantly dragged by daily activities and busy schedules. Time comes and goes and we are left to feel unsatisfied, lost, and empty. Without a vision, life is aimless and will reach nowhere. The Bible says, where there is no vision, the people perish (Proverb 29:18).

Do an experiment: close your eyes, walk, and see where you will reach. When you open your eyes, you will find out you are circling around without reaching any place in particular. When I was little, I did this so many times just for fun, but I never actually gained this insight until I grew up.

A vision is the destination of our life journey. We should carry it in our minds at all times. A good vision provides us with clarity about the future and removes confusion; a vision is the sensational light bulb that makes people see long-term goals and gives them the momentum to achieve short-term goals and deliver results; a vision is magnetic, contagious, and influential as it draws people together to achieve a great cause; a vision is the compass on the road that guides us to destination, keeps us on track and reminds our mission; a vision instills enthusiasm in people and motivates them to commit to their work.

The Olympic gold medal is a vision that inspires and propels athletes to achieve their short-term goals one by one with the necessary grit it takes to conquer the unimaginable difficulties along the way. The trophy is a vision that unites a team on a football field to collaborate for soaring wins with blood, sweat, and tears.

Writing the book, Grow to Your Fullest, is my vision. I got this vision when I was stuck in my career and life and prayed for a direction. God answered me in a way that I never thought about, “use what you suffered to help people overcome their suffering. I suffered on the cross to deliver people from their suffering.” And His words was shining through my mind “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). From that moment, I decided to write the book and help people and myself grow to their fullest in their life.

If you do not have a clear vision, it’s time to find it now.
