You are Wonderfully Made

Updated: Oct 16, 2021

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. - Psalm 139:14

How do you feel when you are facing a bunch of blooming roses and having a full of bowl of cherries? What do you think when you are in the middle of miserable hassles with nothing but two empty hands like watching Tianjin chemical factory explosions and you are helpless? In which situation, you feel grateful or you are resentful?

Maybe you have not experienced any of the two extremes in life instead you go through each day monotonously and do meaningless chores. You do not feel any excitement but only boresome. Is it easy to give thanks? Each day the sun rises from east and sets in west no matter if you notice it or not. However how many glorious moments are created during every sunrise and sunset. In the monotonousness, there is excitement but we miss them because we are too busy to notice them. In the same way, we miss our greatness from the Lord because we are too engaged in meaningless chores that seem too important to us in the moments.

Like each ordinary day, one day I got up early to go to work. It was still in January, outside was pretty dark around six in the morning and the weather was chilly. I arrived at the train station and parked the car in the parking lot as usual, rushed to the quarter machine, paid my parking fee then ran to the train platform as I heard the train sound from afar and it was coming. Unfortunately I was not able to catch the train and had to wait for the next one. I felt a little disappointed as it’s not what I planned. However while I was waiting for the train in the cold, the sun was rising from the east and it was piercing through the thin clouds in the sky and shining out glorious light on the parking lot. Immediately the little train station came alive from dull sleep and was glittering in the golden light. Immediately I remembered Psalm 19:1: the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. My heart was connected with the Lord and I sensed He was around me at that moment and his love warmed up my heart. The dull short journey became so exciting and cheerful. I knew from my heart, I was fearfully and wonderfully made and I knew it full well.

When the Psalmist, David, said, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made”, where do you think he was in his life? Reflecting David’s life, as a teen boy, he was a shepherd watching his flocks in pastures every day, how could he get such a confident feeling that he was fearfully and wonderfully made. In his life, David experienced life’s richness in both bad and good times and he understood God’s omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence so he was in awe of God because he was strictly disciplined by Him and loved by Him. In discipline, David suffered and learned God’s righteousness; in His love, David enjoyed God’s mercy and blessings.

To be frank, I have never had such a feeling that I am wonderfully made and neither fearful made until I sensed deeply God’s three characters, omniscience, omnipresence and omnipotence – God knows everything and he is everywhere and he has unlimited power and infinite intelligence. No matter how the world runs. I understand, if I am not in God’s plan, I would not have been born to come to the world and have gone through a unique path of life and be where I am now; I know my life is in his hands though it’s a secret to me regarding when I will leave this world; I also know God wants me to take my life’s responsibilities in good or bad and I have to face his justice sooner or later so I am fearful of him; I experience his great love, mercy, grace and blessings, the most important, his calling and mission for my life so I know I was wonderfully made to do awesome things in life for Him. When I focus on my daily life on things without him, I can easily feel empty but whenever I connect my mind to him, I sense the richness of life and the hope even though in so many times I am helpless for what is happening and I do not like it. However the Lord helps me believe his goodness is in my helpless and misery moments.

Dear friends, have you felt you were fearfully and wonderfully made and do you know it full well? If you do not, it’s time for you to connect to God because He is waiting for you.
