Four Steps to Build Close Partnership with God

Updated: Mar 23, 2022

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding, In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6)

In a dark night, a father and a little girl were crossing a bridge. The father was kind of scared and he asked his little daughter, ‘Sweetheart, please hold my hand so that you don’t fall into the river.’ The little girl said, ‘No, Dad. You hold my hand.’ ‘What’s the difference?’ asked the puzzled father. ‘There’s a big difference,’ replied the little girl. ‘If I hold your hand and something happens to me, chances are that I may let your hand go. But if you hold my hand, I know for sure that no matter what happens, you will never let my hand go.’ In any relationship, the essence of trust is not in its bind, but in its bond that defines the true partnership. And the little girl trusts in her father so she would like to stretch out her little hand and hold by her father. In building partnership with, the first step is that you have to trust in Him.

Step 1: Believe in Him

Any close relationship starts with trust. No trust, no continued close relationship because the true supportive powerful relationship is rooted in the heart but not relying on causal talks though it may start with a causal talk. Believing in someone means you trust what he tells in heart and you desire to listen to him and follow through. Suppose someone asks you to borrow him $10,000 and he promises to pay you back after one year. If you do not believe in him, will you believe in what he promises? No, will you lend money to him? Of course not! Suppose some promises you a secret formula that can get rid of all your troubles in life, will you believe in him? If you do not, will you take his formula and follow through?

Believing in people is hard and believing in God is even harder because you are used to believe what you see. How can people believe in an invisible God? However God has been visible about two thousand years ago while Jesus was born on earth, grew up, talked with people and traveled on earth. But there are still many who do not believe in Him. In ancient times, Israelians from Egypt following Moses saw many miracles God performed for their sake but still some people complained in the desert during tough times and forgot God’s miracle and power. Believing in God, Jesus, needs bold faith. Jesus told one of his disciples, Thomas, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29) God cannot be your partner if you do not believe in Him because you reject him first and even He actually helps you, you do not give any credit to Him. If you truly want to believe in Him, please say the following prayer then find a church to get baptized in Jesus’ name.

Dear Jesus and Creator of the universe and my being, I come to you so I can draw constantly flowing energy, confidence and power to empower me walk through the life’s winding journey and do greatest things in this life. I realize now I cannot do it alone and I have to commit all my dreams, plans and goals to you and I need your guidance and partnership in life. I confess I have sinned against you alone as I tried to rely on myself or mortal people like me to achieve greatness but it won’t work. I know you love me passionately. Otherwise, you would not have dead for me on the cross. I believe you have been raised from dead and you are with me forever. Thank you Jesus for all you have done to me. Please come into my heart and lead me from this right moment. I pray in the Lord Jesus’ holy name.

Step 2: Know His Commands

If you said that prayer first time, Congratulations! Once you believe in Him, the next thing is to get to know Him at personal level. God has infinite intelligence and He is rich in personality, authority, power, peace, joy, justice and healing, etc., For Nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37). His words are the true light and instruction for us regarding how to live every day in a right way so we can enjoy an abundant life. Reading his words every day, you will gain wisdom of life. Remember his commands and follow them. His greatest command is Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbor as yourself (Luke 10:27)

Step 3: Listen to His words and Act in His Way

When we read his words and get to know him personally and know his commands, we will listen to his voice. Gradually we will use his words guiding our daily actions and build our life on a rock that will never fall. Jesus said, Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)

If we only listen to his words but never put them in actions, we are cheating ourselves and the Lord, we build our house on sand. When the storms come, it falls and we collapse because we do not take his words deeper in heart and we are weak inside and could not stand any trials. We become wiser and stronger only when we take his words in heart and act according to his words then we will not fall when troubles throw at us because we are standing on a rock where the Lord is the foundation. Step 4: PRAY daily

What our daily life looks like after we add Him in our life? We communicate with Him daily even hourly so our relationship with Him becomes closer and closer, we have the minds of the Lord instead of our own.

First start each day with Praise, praise him for giving us a new day, the moment, the breath. This is the day the Lord made, let’s rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:4). Praise him for the daily bread, praise Him for the fresh air and waters, praise him for seasons, praise for everything we have and things we do not have.

Second mediate on what we think and do and Repent our sins, see if there is anything in us that is offensive to the Lord. If we do, repent our sins. Just as David prayed, Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24)

Third Ask him to help you and support you in anything you do. As He promised us, Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7) and he also said, if you remain in Me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you (John 15:7)

Finally, you’d learn to Yield to God’s decision. Sometimes what we ask for may not be good to us or not at the right time. We have to learn to patiently wait for Him or take whatever the result from Him. I got Bell's Palsy about eleven years ago. First I asked God to heal in three months, then 6 months, one year, two year, seven years. But He did not heal me as I asked. However, during the process, I saw his beautiful purpose in my life that uses my illness to console others who also suffer Bell’s Palsy. When I realized His purpose, I praised Him for using my illness to show his love and compassion to others. And I see God actually healing me gradually and I am getting better and better. Now I am getting much better. In the morning, whenever I look at myself in mirror and see how much better I have got in those years, my heart is full of praises and joys. I am still confident of this the Lord will completely heal me soon and restore my beautiful smiles.
